Murase Kyoko: Fluttering far away

10 April – 13 June
Toyota Municipal Museum of Art

Swallows 3   2009

A solo outing by the Dusseldorf-based Japanese artist who has given birth to numerous images of young women wandering through groves, grottos and along the seashore. Fluttering far away surveys the past ten years of Murase’s practice from her early works characterized by a sense of delicacy amidst bold brushwork to more recent works including about a dozen brand new. Highlights include the artist’s wall drawing, likening the exhibition space to a cave, and her ornamental installation making use of the museum’s glass wall. A catalogue of the same title will be published (by Seigensha) in conjunction with the show.
