New Tokyo Contemporaries (NTC) has organized an art month in Tokyo from January to February, 2010, aroung the theme of contemporary culture and business. During the art month, NTC will present talks, parties and exhibitions at venues throughout Tokyo, including events in the Otemachi district and at Nikkei SPACE NIO. Each of the seven NTC member galleries will present special exhibitions as well as collaborations between gallery artists and partners from throughout Tokyo's cultural community including emerging talents from the design, fashion and music fields.
The art month represents a collective effort to bring art into closer contact with daily life in Tokyo, and is open to all participants. NTC's aim is to foreground contemporary art as an essential part of everyday contemporary culture. The art month represents a new phase of activity for NTC, which was founded with the goal of increasing opportunities for and interest in the exhibition and appreciation of contemprary art in Tokyo.

Commissioned by the producers of the upcoming feature film Pool, original artwork by gallery artist Yukiko Suto will be on view at a pop-up shop promoting the movie from Saturday, August 15.
Suto's painting entitled "Pool at BAN ROM SAI" has been used as the poster art for Pool. Also at the shop will be related goods such as T-shirts, trays and handkerchiefs with artwork by Suto.

Naoshima Public Bath "I♥湯" (I Love Yu)

The Naoshima Bathhouse "I♥湯" is located close to the ferry peer in Mianoura. The bathhouse can be identified by the red phonetic character yu.

Views of the bathouse interior. The bottoms of the baths are lined with stones and collages of found images and shunga erotic prints that come in and out of view with the movement of the water.

*In Japanese, the "湯" in "I♥湯" is pronounced "you" and means "hot water."
*The font used for "直島銭湯" and "湯" is an original font created by Shinro Ohtake.
