Ikeda Mitsuhiro: New Works

6.27 – 7.25
ShugoArts (Tokyo)

Ikeda Mitsuhiro’s second solo show, and first in two years, at ShugoArts. The artist describes his paintings as ‘engaging more actively with things gleaned from reality, thereby generating new images that change our perceptions of the world’. In a three-man show held last year together with Nakahira Takuma and Kobayashi Masato, Ikeda presented a large-scale painting (approx. 2 x 3 meters) that he says was an experiment in attempting to understand and express the process by which images are generated as an extension of perceiving everyday scenes and experiences. Following the ‘perception’ stage, however, we also detect another train of thought, which in contrast to generating images tends to verbalize and differentiate. Ikeda acknowledges giving thought to both, and hopefully such thinking will take on new dimensions in this new body of works.

Ikeda Mitsuhiro also has work in neoteny japan currently underway at the Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo. (ART iT)
