Nara Yoshitomo’s first solo show in seven years at his Tokyo gallery. Best known for his paintings, drawings and sculptures of children with somewhat impertinent expressions on their faces and installations in hut-like studios created in collaboration with Toyoshima Hideki and other founding members of the design unit graf under the moniker YNG, at this exhibition he breaks new ground, unveiling his first-ever series of ceramic sculptures. The large and small-scale sculptures and drawings on display represent the results of Nara’s one-plus-year residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in the kiln-town famed for Shigaraki pottery.
