Hollow: Duplex   2009  Installation view

A solo exhibition by the artist who at a young 31 represented the Japanese pavilion at the 2003 Venice Biennale and whose practice continues to move freely across a range of media that includes sculpture, video and photography. Here he presents eight pieces from his new series, Hollow, which seem to drift in midair or on water, and in stark contrast yet harmonizing, two pieces from his wild New Born series. Hollow sets its sight on the relation between sculpture and its shadow; an attempt to sculpt that elusive something known as presence. Enjoy both their translucency during the day when the space is flooded with natural light, or their more pronounced whiteness and shadow in the evening when the lighting kicks in.
