Gallery Naruyama (Kudanshita)
Etude for Virgin Specimen 2009
The Japanese female artist whose ghastly yet beautiful images of ghosts and dissected viscera invite us to rethink the relation between the physical and spiritual elements of sentiment and pain. Here she presents a selection of sketches including the study for her painting, Virgin Speciman, currently showing in the Mori Art Museum’s Medicine and Art. Just as for Matsui, sketches ‘allow the viewer a possibility to synchronize with the personal space of the artist’, one might call this an opportunity to step into the world of her art works.
*The artist will be signing her special edition monograph on Tuesday 15 December 15 at the gallery from 7pm (see link for details).
