Launched in 2004 and held triennially ever since, Roppongi Crossing introduces the present-tense creative practices of Japanese artists/creatives working across a diverse range of disciplines. Guest curators Kinoshita Chieko and Kubota Kenji joined MAM curator Kondo Kenichi in organizing this, the third edition, which reexamines the true value and meaning of art in our times by starting from a question posed by the late Dumb Type artist Furuhashi Teiji: ‘Can there be art?’ The answer lies in a selection of new and topical works, diverse in their approaches the social issues they address by twenty artists/units including Aoyama Satoru, Chim↑Pom, contact Gonzo, Hitotsuki, Morimura Yasumasa, Teruya Yuken, and Ujino Muneteru. Other highlights include video screenings of the Dumb Type performance of S/N and a chance to cast your vote for the Audience Award (results to be announced on 13 June).
