Peter Newman: Skystation

Courtesy Ron Bainbridge

British artist Peter Newman’s UFO-like Skystation began its extended stay outside the Hayward Gallery in London today. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s classic LC4 chaise-lounge, the sculpture doubles as a piece of public seating designed to fit the reclining figure and send gazes skybound. Skystation is part of the 100 Places Project – a limited edition of 100 pieces developed and sold by Futureditions – curated by the cultural consultancy Futurecity. In addition to this interactive sculpture, Newman shows a series of photographs in the Hayward’s cafe bar through 14 September.
