Video Installation, Courtesy the artist and Gallery Koyanagi

The latest solo show by an artist who presents disquieting scenes from contemporary living, images emblematic of Japan, and in recent years, her own inner life, via animations featuring hand-drawn pictures and colors reminiscent of comics and ukiyo-e prints. Taking as its theme the idea of ‘generations’, Danmen features five new video installations, plus the artist’s original illustrations for the newspaper serial novel, Akunin. Events scheduled in conjunction with the show include the experimental dance performance, Yudangami, a collaboration between the dancer Yasumoto Masako and musician Tucker, combining images from Tabaimo’s new works; and a restaging, also incorporating images from Tabaimo ‘s new works, of Wandering Party’s theatre work, total eclipse, which inspired Tabaimo in developing the concept for this exhibition.
