Collection1 80/90/00/10

The exhibition “Collection 1: 80/90/00/10,” presents a wide range of artworks from the 1980s to the 2010s, including new acquisitions from last year.

In 2022, the Museum purchased a painting by Takashi Murakami for the first time. 727 FATMAN LITTLE BOY (2017), one of the largest Murakami works in Japan, is part of his signature series “727” begun in 1996. Other new acquisitions include a painting by Minako Nishiyama, another acquisition from last year, an early work by Osamu Kokufu utilizing vehicles, and a photographic work by the German artist Astrid Klein, the first to enter a Japanese museum collection. The present show, with more than 50 exhibits, also features a video installation by Tabaimo, acquired on the occasion of her 2010 solo exhibition “Tabaimo: DANMEN ,” and a painting installation by Kodai Nakahara, purchased following the 2018 exhibition “New Wave: Japanese Contemporary Art of the 1980s .”
