Elias Hansen:
Born 1979 in Washington. Currently works in upstate New York. He studied printmaking under Master Printer Keiko Hara at Whitman College. His work has been shown at Maccarone, New York; Jonathan Viner Gallery, London; Galerie Balice Hertling, Paris; and at venues in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Italy, among other places. He made his debut in Japan at the Yokohama Triennale 2014. This is his first solo exhibition at Take Ninagawa.

At the Yokohama Triennale, Hansen’s installation of neon-colored, handblown glass objects and found material, evoking the atmosphere of an underground laboratory, was one of the highlights of the exhibition. The new work for Take Ninagawa is a chandelier incorporating handblown glass flasks, resembling lab equipment, installed among the “branches” spreading from a metal pole. Colorful, fluorescent lighting will illuminate the objects and transform the gallery space through the resulting reflections and distortions of light passing through the glass.
