Given – in Intervals as overlapping matters

Arriving at the exhibition room, I thought to create a landscape of non-place through the absence present in the memory.

I want to realize a work that integrates the experience of sound, image and spatiality bonding the imagined and the real.

The specific architectural situation of the space and the light provides the environment in which the work emerges, interacting and modifying as much as being modified.

The installation incorporates the architecture integrating its reflections and the changing intensity of the light, fulfilling the room with the sound, the silence and creates a landscape defined by the frame of images.

The film material for this work is from an authentic experience I had as a traveler, an observer, in a journey from Rotterdam to the Black Sea, crossing all over Europe from West to the East. The socio-geographical situation is one recognizable layer among others.

The journey in this work is more an abstract, psychological approach on the state of moving on (physically as mentally).

Each video consists of two parts that flows into each other in different directions. There is an interconnection on this transit, between conscious and unconscious (inner and outer space). Both parts refer to river, to journey, to be moving on.

The black and white part relates to the imagined, unconscious, dream, rapture. Eyes that observe, a thought that dives into a dream-journey. Inner space.

The sequence moves in all sixteen monitors in different shifts of seconds, making the whole visible at a sight.

In the colour part, the sequences are in each monitor different, some repeating, others moving slowly throughout the time. It refers to the real, the conscious. Outer-space.

Sound: this is not a music piece but it is composed as a canon and for each sequence.

Time suspension, repetition, interaction and change are integrative parts of this journey which begins everyday by a start, as we recognize that all is thoughts, and that we did not feel at the end. Let’s look how it juxtaposes with your own experience.
