A World Through Documentary Film

Maison Hermes 10F Le Studio
“A World Through Documentary Film.”

Maison Hermès opened in 2001, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of its inception. The “Le Studio” the cinema, on the 10th floor of Maison Hermès, was an integral part of the scene and amenities from the start, and has screened a steady stream of highly distinctive film programs.

This year, celebrating the annual theme of “Contemporary Artisans,” Hermès has produced the documentary film Hearts and Crafts. Together with this film, Le Studio is also presenting a special program that focuses on documentary film. As the selections made by Le Studio, three films will be shown to illustrate the artisans who have lived and worked in Paris over the generations, along with their outstanding professionalism. These works were produced under the editorial supervision of Alexandre Tsékénis, scenic artist and instructor at the renowned Paris-based French state film school École Nationale Supérieure des Métiers de I’Image et du Son (La fémis).

Also on the program will be films from the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, an event held in Yamagata Prefecture that has captured keen international attention for over two decades as the largest film festival devoted to documentary creations. This will include four highly recommended films fresh this year’s competition entries, as well as five productions from the Festival’s illustrious archives.

Le Studio, the small private cinema in Ginza, will become an intersection of observation through the lenses of documentary films with the essence of variety and perspective.
