Postwar France. Madame Souza is worried about her shy grandson, Champion, who seems depressed. Noticing his fascination with bicycles, she gives him one and begins rigorously training him to become a champion. At last, her beloved grandson is ready to compete in the Tours de France, but in the middle of the race he is kidnapped by the mafia…
Madame Souza crosses the ocean to rescue him and reaches Belleville, a megalopolis of towering skyscrapers. With her dog Bruno and three eccentric old women encountered in the city, Madame Souza faces down the mafia. The film depicts the strange adventures of this feisty grandmother.
