Ever since she was a girl, the highly ambitious Joan Webster has rushed headlong toward her goals. At 25, Joan’s decision to marry a man about the same age as her parents was prompted by the fact that he was one of England’s wealthiest men. Convinced that wealth is the key to happiness, Joan travels to the island where her fiancé is waiting. But when her trip is interrupted by bad weather, she begins to reconsider the true meaning of wealth and wonders if she really loves another man.

Destiny wavers between two separate worlds. This romantic comedy, directed by the great British duo of Powell and Pressburger, unfolds amid Scotland’s great outdoors and its traditional culture.
