Auction
A painting by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) set a world record for any work of art at auction at Christie’s Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale on May 4 in New York. Nude, Green Leaves and Bust fetched US$106,482,500 (including buyer’s premium). The previous record for a work of art at auction ($104.3 million) was set in February of this year for a sculpture by Alberto Giacometti. The 1932 painting of Picasso’s mistress Marie-Therese Walter had been in the collection of the late Los Angeles art patron Mrs Sidney F. Brody.
