Book: An Imperial Palace Museum Project

Book & Exhibition

The concept behind An Imperial Palace Museum Project stemmed from the fantasy of gathering all the important works of art in Japan and housing them in a giant museum to be constructed in the Imperial Palace compound. The idea caught fire, and the proposals by noted controversialists involving art, architectural, political, city and other factors are about to be released in the form of a book. The idea began as a conceptual artwork by Hikosaka Naoyoshi, and was presented by Igarashi Taro at the 1st Lisbon Architecture Triennale in 2007. It was exhibited upon its return to Japan and debated by a number of panelists in a related symposium. The book also includes documentation from the symposium and proposal drawings for the museum architecture. The book’s release will be celebrated with an exhibition and talks (information below).
