Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has been posting news on Twitter about head surgery he underwent at and his subsequent release from a Munich hospital. Ai had been detained, but later released, by police in August in the Sichuan city of Chengdu before he was to give evidence at the trial of an environmental activist. Reports had mentioned Ai being punched when police entered his hotel room at the time of his detainment, and now documentation of him being treated in Munich has surfaced on Twitter. Ai Weiwei’s solo exhibition So Sorry will open 12 October at Munich’s Haus der Kunst as planned. His solo show Ai Weiwei: According to what? at Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum runs through 8 November.
