Artist Kiki Smith received the 50th Edward MacDowell Medal. The Medal is awarded each year by America’s leading artists colony, The MacDowell Colony, to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her field. Visual artists who have received the Medal since it was first awarded in 1960 include Georgia O’Keeffe, Nam June Paik and Merce Cunningham. The award ceremony took place on 9 August before an audience of more than 1000 people.
