Subsidies for insuring artworks under review

In recent times, terrorist attacks among other things has meant the cost of insuring artwork on loan from overseas has skyrocketed, thus creating an obstacle to the holding of large exhibitions. In response to this, the Agency for Cultural Affairs established an investigation committee in March of this year for a period of one year to consider the introduction of a state subsidy system to alleviate the burden of insurance costs, and has published its report on its progress thus far. The subsidy system would be directed at high-value famous artwork from around the world, artwork that is academically or culturally significant, exhibitions that have satisfied a high-level safety standard, exhibitions that have some kind of public benefit and exhibitions which private enterprise would have difficulty in staging.
