The 53rd International Art Exhibition closed its gates on 22 November. Opening on 7 June with a record 77 national participations, during its 24 weeks running the biennale welcomed a record 375,705 visitors (an average of 2,223 per day), marking an increase of 18 percent over the last edition. In addition to 44 collateral events staged in Venice, the festival organized two international online competitions: one for the best photograph of a contemporary art work, and one for the best video made using a mobile phone.
