Phillips London contemporary sale (almost) on target

Thirty of the 40 lots offered in Phillips de Pury’s contemporary art evening sale held 29 June in London found buyers, realizing £5,101,350 – just short of the £5.34 million low estimate. The evening’s top lot was Ed Ruscha’s That Was Then This Is Now (1989), fetching £713,250 (est £600-800,000), followed by John Chamberlain’s Mr. Moto (1963) at £529,250 (est £400-600,000) and Thomas Schutte’s Stahlfrau Nr. 7 (Steel Woman no. 7) (2001) at £457,250 (est £300-500,000). Among Asian artist’s Yue Minjun’s Untitled (2005) sold for £421,250 (est £250-300,000) and Nara Yoshitomo’s Your Dog (2002) for £121,250 (est £120-180,000).
