Amidst the cries of spiraling global economic recession, summertime comes – bringing its own redundant set of emotionally charged myths and images. Curated by SFAI’s Director of Exhibitions and Public Programs Hou Hanru, Summertime is an exhibition of film and video works by international artists including Knut Åsdam (Norway), Chen Shaoxiong (China), Jimmie Durham (USA), Emre Hüner (Turkey) and Aleksander Komarov (Belarus), which seek that ‘other place’ missing in the (sub)urban flux. Also proposing an ‘other place’ to the multiplex movie-house, is a solitary installation created by the Japanese architecture studio Atelier Bow-Wow.
