Anything but an ordinary gallery visit, Lee Mingwei here extends a personal invitation for all to come bring in that ragged pair of jeans or that forlorn shirt for mending. But don’t expect your usual fare, as Lee celebrates the tear by sewing with one of 300 brightly colored threads the participant can choose. In this truly participatory experience, artist and viewer sit across from each other for a conversation about the links between the self and the surroundings. One sews while the other’s modified clothes become part of the installation, forming an intricate web strewn with hues of all kinds as the articles pile up with the threads still connected to the cones of thread on the wall.
