Wako Works of Art (Tokyo)
Striking, bold pointillistic (or Photoshop-like?) brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and a somehow surreal air: Masada Takeshi combines them carefully to impressive effect in this solo show of his latest offerings. The motifs depicted here also conjure up existing imagery – electronic and print – of the sort that constitutes a constant visual assault in the modern world. At the same time, Masada’s works compel us to consider exactly what and how those of us confronted daily by such images previously felt about them (or were made to feel about them), and from when.
