As a segment of Berlin’s Asia-Pacific Weeks, Chinese artist Qiu Zhijie and Japanese artist Kawamata Tadashi are holding concurrent solo exhibitions. Qiu’s installation Twilight of the Idols takes up the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge – built in 1968 as a symbol of progress, today synonymous with suicide. Kawamata’s Berlin Tree Houses create nests of civil disobedience in and outside of the venue, while questioning modern architecture.
