Araki Nobuyoshi’s Nihonjin no kao (‘Faces of Japan’) project, in which the photographer will travel to each of Japan’s 47 prefectures and shoot portraits of citizens there, is an attempt to document contemporary Japan and its culture. Araki launched the project in 2002 with the ‘Faces of Osaka’ and has since presented photocollections and exhibitions of the faces of Kagoshima, Ishikawa, and Aomori. For Hiroshima no kao (Faces of Hiroshima) he has selected 461 groupings of people to shoot. The exhibition will feature these and about 100 recently shot flower images.
