Deers, Sundarbans, Bangladesh 2008 Type-C print 105.6 x 136.6cm

An artist whose photographic practice fixes its sight on the history and memories latent in places and things. This solo show features a body of work created for the 2008 Bangladesh Biennale. A nation with a complex background – the once ancient kingdom underwent colonization, partition from India as a part of Pakistan, and independence in 1971 – and yet here too people naturally live their lives in the present. Yoneda’s camera captures scenes pregnant with the effects of that history and the tensions of the social problems of today, plus images of lovers.
