Special display | Yusuke Asai

In Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art, I set a theme as a nucleus by the collection of approximately 4,000 points every time and introduce charm of the contemporary art from different angles after the war. In this term, introduce picture collection of this museum; “what happened on cloth?” | By at theme exhibition “the time of the tree time of the stone” by the expression that a sculpture, a picture, prints are various mainly on the picture of 1950-60 generations and the writer publicly including the production “is display | in particular” I compose it of Yusuke Asai.

[exhibition summary]
In 1F, I introduce a picture work drawn from 1950s through 60s. It is the times when the superior picture of most was born worldwide while I receive a change of the situation and the sense of values by the Great War under the influence of the abstract art that was a big tide of the 20th century among other things at this time. What happened on cloth? It is the title which I want you to pay attention to the exchanges with the material and referred, but it means various transformation brought to the thing called the picture at the same time again by their trial how writers challenged the canvas which is は, the support of the picture. The book exhibition takes up one end of the European activity of concrete association in Japan of art, ルーチョ・フォンタナ and Claude ヴィアラ and others and Mark Rothko and Morris Lewis, the best trend of the U.S.A. abstraction picture by Kenneth no land and others from picture collection of this museum and sees the work group that there is many what is referred to historically slowly and carefully and is happy if I am attractive, and it is with a meaning of the practice of writers who asked the possibility of the picture variously with an opportunity to be able to touch it some other time.

In 3F, I introduce the store work concerning growth and the memory of the tree, the birth and the chain of the death titled “the time of the tree, the time of the stone”. It is the origin of the production, and, as for “tree”, it may be said that a figure of hope to symbolic story and growth or writer oneself was repeated familiar, important material, subject for writers more than ancient times again. In addition, particularly in late years a unit and society and the life of us consisting of dynamic processes of the whole seem to be begun to compare with circulation of the action to surround trees by the environment /-affiliated work which, as a whole, elaborates a plan. Besides, a picture letting you feel a plant-like part and an overall relationship from tree itself and a sculpture and picture about traces various works such as the solid works concerning soil and the stone gently and is happy if I can have you touch it at many voices and the time when a tree and the stone have through these works.

In one room of the 3F exhibition room, I perform special display by the public production of Yusuke Asai (1981 -). It is a writer attracting its attention by the workshop “picture by distemper” series using a plant image “masking plant” Asai who went “the forest of the root” uses a pen and the tape freely, and to picture and mud and the soil which I gathered locally in this museum in 2011. Please expect it in the organic world where it may be said that I am like baroque drawn with a pen and soil, the leaf of the plant, dust.
Or it may be said that it was the imminent, important material, subject which a figure of writer oneself is put on.
