I start “a method (design) to touch the rabbit smash exhibition world” on Thursday, October 3 in Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art.
The 21st century when society became complicated more begins, and the design accomplishes a big change, too. Unlike a design producing “newness” used without cease, it may be said that a design giving a change in the consciousness of people for the society adds to importance from now. The book exhibition focuses on the practice of such a design and takes up various elements and events of the modern society computerized highly and introduces the domestic and foreign designers, artists, architects who design it, and send it to the form to be produced, 21 sets of expression to our hand. Their expression to cross the domain, and to be active reads the world that we live in by an original viewpoint and method and sometimes brings the feel that is different from usual times in an unexpected idea. It is not only sight and, through a general physical experience, questions the way of the existing knowledge system and communication, and this exhibition aims at our being a chance to investigate the world and a method to be concerned with more actively.
I may compare the surprising experience that world how to catch turns into to Alice in Wonderland that has set foot in another world while I run after a rabbit. The rabbit provokes us to the Wonderland and is the symbol of the person giving one hit (smash) in a common-sense viewpoint and fixed idea. The exhibition title “rabbit smash” means the invitation to another entrance for such world.
In addition, as for the book exhibition, it is made meeting, the history with a viewpoint to cross the future in Yutaka Ishii of Taku Sato of the graphic designer who is active from a product design to a child education program as an adviser in Hiroshi Kashiwagi of the first person in the history of design study in many divergences and the MIT Media Laboratory vice-director to see into the missions from the highest technology to the future of the design now by a joint curator.
