Cesare Picco BLIND DATE report

From Hara Museum, Tokyo

On September 16 (Thurs.) and 17 (Fri.), we held Cesare Picco BLIND DATE concert in the Dark at The Hall of the museum. The concert was held in complete darkness, which rarely exists in the natural world. The concept was given by Cesare himself. This was the second concert of this kind since his world premier at the famed Teatro Smeraldo in Milan on December 17, 2009 and the first one in Japan.

The concert hall gradually became dark in eight minutes, and the improvisational performance was held for thirty minutes in darkness. Then the light gradually came back towards the end of the concert, with a piece called “Hikari (light)” performed at the end.

Below are some comments of the guests:

“I realized the sound has color.”
“I felt warmth even in the darkness. The sound replaced light.”
“I felt as if I lost my outline and shared the same sensation with the others.”
“Aroma, wind, etc…different sensations arose within me.”
“It was a fantastic experience. I felt a sense of ‘freedom’ that I had never experienced.”
“This was an opportunity to reset my five senses and mind. I felt a little bit like I was reborn.”
“It was a wonderful release of positive energy, but in a touching + gentle way.”
“When it became dark and I could not see anything, I felt the existence of the Earth. It was as if the music echoed throughout the world.”
“I felt like ZEN concert!”
“Your piano made the solitude within myself beautiful. I felt that the light was a wonderful solitude.”
“I was able to touch the air, the Sun and the wind.”
“When the darkness was about to end, I was very sad, but Cesare’s melody of joy of light gradually healed my sadness.”
“Darkness was scary at the beginning, but from the moment I saw the ground of sound, I went on the journey of wander.”
“I was able to cry comfortably. Today is the day when a good friend of mine had a baby, and I also experienced a very touching moment of coming out from darkness.”
“I felt connections to ancient people.”
“I was crying throughout the concert…It’s been so long since I became emotional. I set out on a journey. Thank you.”
