N2 x Nicolas Buffe The Yokai Collection of Accessories

The Museum Shop at the Hara Museum is happy to announce the arrival of the Yokai Collection of accessories, a collaboration between the French accessory brand N2 and Nicolas Buffe, who held an exhibition at the Hara Museum in 2014.

Nicolas Buffe was born in Paris in 1978 and id longtime resident of Tokyo where he currently lives. His work, which is both splendid and light-hearted, is an amalgamation of influences that include Baroque art, Renaissance art and other elements of traditional European culture and subcultures ranging from video games to Japanese and American comic books and animation, a focus of fascination for the artist since childhood. In other words, a unique fusion of East and West and tradition and modernity.

The theme of the collection is the “yokai,” or mythical beasts of Japan. The collection comprises pierced earrings and necklaces with designs based on such nostalgic characters as the “kappa” river goblin, the racoon dog of the “Bunbuku Chagama” folk tale, the mythical “nekomata” cat demon and fox-face mask.
