When it comes to “air,” we naturally breathe in the substance day in and day out, without giving it a second thought. While it goes without saying that the “Air of Paris” is of a special essence, it is doubtful that all that many Parisians are keenly aware of that charisma in their day-to-day lives. The Bouroullec Brothers, however, rose to the challenge of capturing air as a means of giving expression to the taste and sensation of that distinctive quantity. That air, therefore, has been air mailed in.
The air of Paris bursts from within the luggage on the floor, which has been delivered by airfreight. Floating in the space is a cluster of striped-shaped clouds. Besides the bags, particles of air invisible to the naked eye have also been transported in, with that special Paris air spreading out across the entire window surface at the instant that the bags are opened. This cloud group was produced in Paris. In addition to the striped shape, the clouds, which come in various different shapes, are created in two colors. The result is the pleasures of visual effects that come off as iridescent in tone.
The scattering of the air is depicted with ribbon effects. The products, which float buoyantly in the window dimensions, are focused on the 2006 Autumn Winter Collection – mouton, felt and other materials, and purple, bordeaux and other colors that mirror the fall season. Parisian clouds also drift across the small-size window. The giant products, which act as decorations under clouds towering far above the mighty Eiffel Tower, play out a georama-like world where people appear to be gazing up to see. At times, the oversized products appear to be buildings.
Airfreight boxes packed with the “Air of Paris” have been carried into the window space and opened. The products surge out together with the air. The window has been completed true to the statement: “Hermès was born not in France, but in Paris.”
