Seattle Art Museum appoints new director

This autumn will see current San Diego Museum of Art executive director Derrick R. Cartwright assume the role of director at the Seattle Art Museum. Cartwright holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, and specializes in North American art and architecture, 19th century French art, and the history of photography, and came to his current position in 2004 following stints at Musée d’Art Américain Giverny and Dartmouth College’s Hood Museum. Major exhibitions organized by Cartwright include Coming of Age in Ancient Greece: Images of Childhood from the Classical Past (1998-2000, Musée d’Art Américain, J. Paul Getty Museum [Los Angeles]).
