The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum (Shizuoka)
Sugito Hiroshi the dark mirror 2006
The first exhibition of works from the collection other than those by Giuliano Vangi since the opening of the Italian sculptor’s eponymous museum in 2002. The show features works by Ikemura Keiko, Tanado Koji, Murase Kyoko, Sugito Hiroshi and Maruyama Naofumi from five solo shows held previously at the museum – works whose individual motifs interrelate, blending the boundaries between them to create another set of scenes. Similarly, the interaction between the building itself set upon a quiet hilltop and the strong sense of presence Vangi’s sculptures emanate their settings might be seen anew as an extension of the theme.
