Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (Ebisu)

Momose Toshiya  Calcutta  2008       Ishikawa Naoki   From Mt. Fuji series  2008

Delivery, pilgrimage, pioneering, exploration, sightseeing…. Voyages have long been an inseparable part of human life. In an attempt to redefine what constitutes a journey from the perspective of the artist, Voyages presents 170 works by six Japanese photographers and video artists: Ishikawa Naoki, Momose Toshiya, Dodo Takeshi, Sawa Hiraki, Naito Sayuri, and Onaka Koji.
Apropos to the theme of this year’s edition of the museum’s Contemporary Japanese Photography series, the exhibition is also being staged at the La Maison de la culture du Japon a Paris. And just as the content of Ishikawa exhibits differ significantly between the two venues, other aspects may also undergo transformation in relation to the destination of their ‘voyage’.
