An exhibition examining the works and activities of the leading German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys from the perspective of his links to Japan. Beuys visited Japan in 1984 – two years before his death – and during his eight-day stay staged exhibitions, performances, dialogues, and lectures. On view at the exhibition are a host of valuable works and materials including unreleased documentary footage – rediscovered after 25 years – taken during that visit, over 250 multiples, and video interviews with Japanese artists and critics who meet with Beuys back then.
