The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) is held every two years in Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic. The event is one of the world’s largest competitions for original picture book illustrations. The first biennale was staged in 1967 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and this year marks the 30th edition of the event. The exhibition, touring Japan, includes the grand award-winning work, which was selected from a total of 383 picture books by 291 artists from 42 countries. Also on view are picture books, original works, and related materials by ten Japanese participants, both individuals and groups. We hope that you enjoy the expansive world of picture books as you encounter a wide range of creative international expressions and savor these diverse illustrations, derived from a variety of cultures and historical backgrounds.
