SHOP at CAFE Sachiko Teramura: Aquarium in Green [ARC]

Exhibition and Sale Period: Until Sunday, September 11, 2016

As part of the SHOP at CAFE series, the Cafe d’Art is currently holding Aquarium in Green featuring the work of Sachiko Teramura. The artist, currently based in Kiryu city, produces three-dimensional works in vivid and shocking colors using a single piece of fabric that has been tie- or stencil-dyed. In this exhibit, Teramura has installed various versions of her floating objects within an “aquarium” that will transform the space within the cafe. Her objects made of silk and meticulously dyed in red, purple, green and other colors are sure to set the room ablaze.

(Front center, right)

Utsuru (large) 70,000 yen / (small) 30,000 yen (materials: silk, cotton)
Size: (large) approx. 95 × 25 × 25 cm, (small) approx. 45 × 25 × 25 cm

crawls 120,000 yen each (tax included) (material: wire) Size: approx. 40 × 40 × 25 cm

Though Teramura’s works all have very complex shapes, each one is created from a single piece of silk. The softness of the material produces movements and shadows that give her works a mysterious charm that makes us want to look at them forever.

(Left)
Honey Dream Blue 40,000 yen (tax included) Materials: silk, wire) Size: approx. 50 × 40 × 25 cm
(Right)
Red Flower 45,000 yen (tax included) (Materials: silk, wire) Size: approx. 20 × 20 × 20 cm

Silver Butterfly 55,000 yen (tax included) (Materials: silk, wire) Size: approx. 40 × 30 × 15 cm

Because of the organic sheen of silk, these objects show well under natural light, which makes them suitable for any location. Wherever they are placed, the colorful gradations of the fabric change with the seasons and time of the day, making them seem alive. It is an experience we hope you will be able to enjoy up close.

In addition to her objects, Teramura also creates works that can actually be worn as accessories. A large number of these accessories are available at the Museum Shop. By all means stop by and perhaps you will find something that you love. Any of her accessories will provide a perfect accent to summer wear.
