Workshop and Talk by Katsumi Komagata
THINK PAPER @ Hara Museum of Contemporary Art
Venue: The Hall at the Hara Museum

Giving Shape to Images
Katsumi Komagata will hold two days of workshops that he has presented throughout the world. On the second day, he will also give a talk. The material to be used will be paper, which participants will cut and paste as part of a meticulous process designed to stimulate the fingertips and give birth to unique and creative art objects.

■Saturday, August 24, 2013
Target ages: elementary school to adult

1.Expanding
11:00 to 13:00
In this workshop, participants start with a red, triangular, folded card. Unfolding the card, the triangular shape separates into parts. They then cut and attach color paper to expand their image until they end up with a work of art — a card that is unique in the world.

2.One is Two
14:30 to 16:30
Participants select one color paper from among nine different colors and then cut the paper into any shape that they wish. They then exchange their papers with each other. Then using that shape and other pieces of color paper, they expand it to create a largish two-fold card. Everyone gets to make use of their own way of looking and imagination.

■Sunday, August 25, 2013
Target ages: junior high school to adult

3.Tactile Workshop
13:30 to 15:00
In this workshop, participants are blindfolded and given flat pieces of paper, then asked to create three-dimensional objects using the sense of touch alone. By doing this, they realize how much we all depend on vision in our everyday lives and how by honing their senses, they can create things they never imagined they could.

4. Katsumi Komagata Talk
15:30 to 17:00
A Book is Born
