SHUTARO OKU
Film Director/Visual Planner
Shutaro Oku was awarded “Special Mention” at the Seoul Film Festival in 2002 for his maiden work “KAI-ON”, after which he has produced a constant stream of films such as “Labor Cop”, “Japanese Naked Tribe” and “Aka-sen”. Since his first official invitation to participate in the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival with his work “Cain’s Descendant”, he has received many more from international festivals throughout the world. His later films include “Death of Domomata” and “USB”. Between theatrical releases, he directed “Tenshochi,” a documentary focusing on the rare talents of theater directors Yukio Ninagawa, Hideki Noda and Masahide Komaki. As a visual planner for the stage, Oku directed “Elizabeth” for Toho Musicals, “The Character” for NODA MAP and “Casablanca” for Takarazuka, among others. After contributing videos/visuals in “TAP MAN x PIANO MAN x MOVIE MAN” and “Yoshida Brothers Live”, he won critical praise for the originality and possibilities that he presented in “Black Cat”, receiving the “Excellent Staff Award” at the Yomiuri Theater Awards in 2008. This originality continues to shine in theatrical works that he has directed, such as “Kimidori”, “Freaks”, and “South of Heaven”.http://www.Shutaro Oku.com/

IKUYO KURODA
Ikuyo Kuroda began studying classical ballet at the age of 6. After studying contemporary dance at the Laban Center in the United Kingdom, she began performing as a member of Kim Itoh + Glorious Future. In 2002, she founded BATIK, a company made up of 6 female dancers which performs her own choreography. BATIK won the National Council prize at the Yokohama Platform of Rencontre Choreographique International du Seine St. Denis (formerly the Bagnolet International Choreography Competition), which served as the impetus for her to put the company on a full-time basis. Kuroda has taken the bold step of basing her choreography on ballet techniques while maintaining the expressive range of contemporary dance. In her work, great importance is placed on the act of dancing itself. Her honors include the 2003 Prize for Excellence at the SPAC Dance Festival sponsored by the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center and the Next Generation Award and the Audience Award at the Toyota Choreography Award 2003. She participated in the Korea-Japan Dance Festival in 2002.

JIRO MATSUMOTO
Born in 1976 in Nara prefecture, Matsumoto started to play the piano at the age of 4, became interested in Nunchaku (karate sticks) at 7, and started to play the guitar at 9. He worked with Kenichi Tanno as a musician in 1995 and has been involved in many kinds of performing arts since then. With a focus on musical activity, he has played not only in Japan but also in other countries and various venues such as theaters, live houses, nursing homes and juvenile reformatories. He currently plays in the band “Alcoholic Group”, which released a CD (now on sale) under its alternate name “Underground Reservation”. He also plays in the band “BANESENPAI” with guitar player Sukanku.
