This unconventional work, directed by the cinematic genius Marco Ferreri, depicts the daily life of a strange man and woman on a desert island. Liza (Catherine Deneuve), a woman of limpid beauty, flees to the Mediterranean island after a fight with her lover. There, she finds Giorgio (Marcello Mastroianni), a man who lives alone, far removed from civilization. After starting to live together, their relationship grows increasingly perverse.

The film follows the trajectory of the couple’s fantastic love – an affair between two people who have abandoned all other human relations. The bold performances by Deneuve and Mastroianni, who were romantically involved at the time, caused a huge stir and resulted in one of the actress’ biggest hits.
