Forty teenagers with no experience in dance or theatre gathered together under the tutelage of world-famous dancer Pina Bausch. A strenuous ten-month regime of dance practice begins in preparation for a performance of Kontakthof, Pina Bausch’s signature dance number dealing with the theme of “love between man and woman”…
The young men and women, who joined the dance company with diverse motivations, were filled with doubt at first, wondering if they could really dance or how it all made sense. However, as they devoted themselves to dance practice under the instruction of Pina Bausch and other dance couches, they were awakened to the pleasure of the dancing. In intimate touch with the other dancers and immersed in the deep time of dance that revealed their feelings, their movements started to look sharper and their expressions began to shine as even they started to notice changes in themselves.
A valuable documentary that captured the last images of Pina Bausch before her sudden death in 2009, this film depicts the powerful moment when these youths achieve a “metamorphosis,” and their lives become filled with the hope.
