Art Space “Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo” opens tomorrow!

Louis Vuitton is happy to announce the opening of an art space, “Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo”, on the 7th floor of a landmark building in the Omotesando area on January 15th, 2011.

First inaugurated in September 2002, the building was conceived as a Louis Vuitton store with several floors by architect Mr. Jun Aoki. His inspiration was an imageof piled trunks, which could beautifully coexist with the zelkova tree-lined streets of Omotesando.
This art space epitomizes Louis Vuitton’s longstanding relationship with the arts, 5 years after the opening of the Espace culturel

Louis Vuitton in Paris on the 7th floor of Louis Vuitton Champs-Elysées Maison, on January 10 th 2006.

Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo is located at the center of Omotesando, the most beautiful area in Tokyo, which has created many trends and cultural movements. The exhibition space on the 7
th floor will have ceilings 8.45 meters high with 193m2 space, and gives visitors the impression of being in an “aerial space” surrounded by the glass.

It is also conceived as a space to provide artists with stimulating inspiration.

In tribute to the 5
th
anniversary of the Espace culturel Louis Vuitton in Paris, Louis Vuitton is delighted to host French artist
Xavier Veilhan for the inaugural exhibition of the Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo. Famous for his installations anchored in urban reality, Veilhan received special recognition in 2009 thanks to an
exhibition of his works at the Château de Versailles. Intent on sharing the essence of things, the artist decomposes reality. He is also a thoroughly modern artist who blends ancient aesthetics and new processes (and conversely, new aesthetics and ancient processes) wherein spectacularness is not the objective but the means.

Please come and enjoy “Free Fall” by Xavier Veilhan at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, and experience Louis Vuitton’s passion for creation.
