Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo opens

The new Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo opened its doors this week on 6 April. Housed in the former Mitsubishi Ichigokan, which was originally built in 1894 as the first office building in the Marunouchi area, the building underwent over two years of reconstruction for its reincarnation as a museum. Under the direction of Takahashi Akiya, the museum’s exhibitions and activities will focus on 19th and early 20th century art. The opening show, Manet et le Paris moderne (6 April – 25 July), features more than 80 works by Édouard Manet (including some from the private collection of the contemporary artist Jeff Koons), plus works by some of his Parisian contemporaries.
