Ai Weiwei calls for Web boycott

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is calling for a boycott of Internet use in protest to a government plan to fit all computers sold in the country with software designed to block ‘unhealthy’ websites. In a posting on Twitter on June 22, the artist urged people to stop all online activities on July 1 – the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party – including ‘working, reading, chatting, blogging, gaming and mailing’.

Ai Weiwei has a major solo show opening in July at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.
