Tate Modern has invited the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei to make a site-specific work for the gallery’s Turbine Hall, a space 35 meters in height and 152 meters in length. The project is the eleventh annual commission in the Unilever Series (sponsored by eponymous manufacturer of home and personal products) launched in 2000. Past commissions in the series include works by Anish Kapoor and Olafur Eliasson. This round marks the first from an Asia-Pacific-based artist.
