Compartment city – Tokyo is the contemporary theatre unit headed by Takayama Akira, Port B’s contribution to Festival/Tokyo09. The installation-like piece set in Ikebukuro West Gate Park takes the form of a small booth inside which visitors can select and watch video interviews of people affiliated with the park and its surrounds, 24 hours day. They can also participate in an optional 30-minute tour, and through both get a sense of the ‘real’ Tokyo. Port B is characterized by tour-like performances that recompose elements quoted from the media and life in the city.
