Kaneshima Takahiro (b. 1977, Tokyo)
Having established itself firmly on the springtime art calendar, Art Fair Tokyo is set to see new leadership when director of FEC (Far East Contemporaries) Kaneshima Takahiro takes over as the new Executive Director of the Fair as of June 1. Kaneshima has been active in the East Asian art scene in research, support-activities for artists and management and coordination of many art projects and is versed in art fairs throughout the Asia-Pacific region, particularly KIAF (Seoul), ShContemporary (Shanghai) and Art Taipai. Kaneshima plans to draw out Tokyo’s potential as world-class city of culture, and while referencing fairs such as Frieze (London) and FIAC (Paris), he also aims to differentiate AFT from Art HK with its emphasis on large-scale, high-priced works as is customary at European and American fairs.
