
The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative is a program created to nurture rising talents in a variety of artistic fields by bringing them together with great masters for a year of creative collaboration in a one-to-one mentoring relationship.
The mentors for the program’s fifth cycle (2010/2011) have just been announced:
For visual arts, the Bombay-born, London-based artist known for his large-scale installations and outdoor sculptures and 1991 Turner Prize winner, Anish Kapoor; for dance, the co-founder (1962) of the avant-garde Judson Dance Theater and driving force of the contemporary dance world, Trisha Brown (USA); for film, the recipient of countless honors and critical acclaim for directing the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Summer Olympics, Zhang Yimou (China); for literature, contemporary poet and author Hans Magnus Enzensberger (Germany); for music, the visionary composer, music producer and theorist, Brian Eno (UK); and in theatre, the theatre and opera director whose works range from the classics to contemporary, Peter Sellars (USA).
In the visual arts category for the fourth cycle, now drawing to a close, artist Rebecca Horn mentored Japanese artist Handa Masanori.
